Beneath The ROOTS...
JJ ROOTS exploded on the East Coast music scene with the launch of their self produced debut album “Here Goes Something".
They showcase the music that inspires them through their original “JJROOTified” covers while inspiring profound responses from audiences by way of soul-lifting vocals and powerful melodic riffs within their highly impactful original music. Their alternative adult contemporary acoustic vibe has been referenced to such greats as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Sheryl Crow, Joan Baez, and Fleetwood Mac.
The duo recently won the 2019 Overall Folk/Americana Duo of the Year at the International JMA Music Awards in Tennessee. This is their second time, year over year, winning this highly competitive international title.
They are completing their sophomore album with world-renowned producer/engineer Paul Milner of Trillium House Studios and continue to transform their cutting edge sound while growing a committed fanbase and adding dates to their Boxcars & Memoirs Tour.
“COLD is a haunting story and a groove that hooks you from the get go! JJ ROOTS brings a reminiscence of the way Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie sang stories. Poetic and beautiful!”
— Devon O'Day, WSM, Nashville, TN
“Last night I went to see this fantastic band. JJ Roots! What an incredible evening! These two fabulous Halifax based artists captivated the audience with their own unique style. Watch out for these two!”
— Sam Rosenthal, Director, Eastern Front Theatre, Halifax, NS
“JJ Roots are known for Jocelyn Parlee’s soulful voice, Jeff Gray’s expertise on the guitar, and their dymanic performances. “Cold” is a catchy, yet haunting song delivered with a vocal performance that would make Stevie Nicks proud.” - Martin Hickey
